Back sprain or strain is most common incident in our daily life. A sprain refers to an overstretching of ligaments in your spine and strain refers to overstretching of muscles Involves in back.

Most cases of sprain and strain occurs during combine moment of heavy weight lifting and twisting. You can avoid an injury to low back by using legs while lifting, bending at knees and keeping your back fairly straight. If you have to turn while lifting, move your feet, otherwise the strain of lifting while twisting can cause injury.

Low back pain is the most common painful condition seen in today’s busy lifestyle. Study suggests that over 80% of people suffer some sort of low back pain during their lifetime.

Very common causes for low back pain includes

  • Poor posture and lack of mobility in spinal joints
  • Spinal, abdominal or hip muscle weakness
  • Poor coordination of the spinal, abdominal and pelvic muscles.

When there is a lack of movement in your spinal joints and muscles, tremendous strain occurs in your lower back.

This causes irritation and inflammation, which build up over time. Generally low back pain aggravates after sitting or lying down for prolonged period. Sometimes it is very difficult to reaching or bending down for objects with pain. Low back pain from weak spinal or hip muscle weakness felt more after long time standing or walking. When spinal, hip or abdominal muscles are weak, the amount of force transferred to back with every day’s activities increases. This causes injury to the low back region. This injury causes acute low back pain.

What is sciatica?

Sciatica pain caused due to the irritation of sciatica nerve and felt into the butter that can goes down the back of the thigh. Sciatica most often occurs when a bulging out disc in spine or an overgrowth of bone puts pressure on part of the nerve. Sciatica also can happen due to tightness of pyriformis muscle in hip. The sciatica nerve pierces through the pyriformis muscle deep in the buttock instead of under it.This can make sciatic nerve more susceptible to irritation.

What is radiating pain?

This kind of pain is often sharp, recurring pain shooting or radiating down your leg caused due to the damaged nerve or herniated disc in your spine. Symptoms may include numbness or tingling sensation in some parts of the leg.

How physiotherapy treatment helps-

As an experienced physiotherapist, I will diagnose you by examining the movement of your spine, hips and legs, range of motion, strength, joint mobility and muscle condition. After determining the root cause of your problem, I’ll make a customized treatment plan to relieve pain quickly, relief radiating symptoms, improve range of motion, strength and help you to prevent further episodes. The treatment procedures may include-

  • Advanced modalities to reduce radiating symptoms.
  • Core muscle training and strengthening exercises.
  • Some appropriate hands-on technique to relieve pressure over nerve.
  • Lifestyle modification guidance to patient to avoid further aggravation of symptoms.

Lumbar Spondylosis is the degeneration of lumbar bones(vertebrae), affecting discs, vertebral bodies and associated joints.

The low back bears a tremendous stress throughout our lifetime, supporting the body, various movement of our body, bending, carrying weight. This causes wear and tear of lumbar bones and face it joints and starts degenerating. Age Is also a factor of this degeneration. Other causes include genetics, previous injuries, improper diet, weight lifting exercises etc.

Symptoms of lumbar Spondylosis includes-

  • Pain in the spine
  • Numbness
  • weakness of back and leg muscles
  • Morning stiffness of lower back
  • Achy Pain in low back, painful moment, numbness and tingling sensation in legs when disc involves.

How physiotherapy treatment helps-

Spondylosis or arthritic condition is irreversible, but physiotherapy can restore natural movements, flexibility, decrease pain and stiffness, improve spinal muscle strength thus patients can continue their normal life activities.

First, a detail evaluation of the conditions like range of motion, flexibility, pen scale, muscle strength will be done. Then will plan a perfect and suitable treatment procedures as per patients need.

Therapy may include –

  • Highly advanced Mackenzie exercise to restore normal range of motion and decrease pain.
  • Highly effective class 4 laser therapy if needed.
  • Dry needling technique may be used to reduce muscle tightness.

Disc is a jellylike fluid filled sac that acts as a cushion between the bones of spine. Disc bulging or herniation can occur anywhere in the spine but most commonly in low back.

Causes of disc herniation- a herniated disc is most often the result of normal age-related wear and tear on the spine. As the age progress, the disc becomes dry, water content decreases in it and flexibility of disc decreases. thus, the space between vertebrae gets narrower and disc become more prone for herniation. Sometimes a traumatic event, such as a fall, can also cause a Disc herniation.

Risk factors for disc herniation includes –

  • Improper weight lifting
  • Overweight
  • Repetitive activities that strain your spine
  • Frequent bending or jerking
  • sedentary lifestyle

Symptoms of disc herniation may include –

  • sciatica pain
  • numbness or a tingling sensation in the lower limb
  • weakness in the leg muscles
  • loss of bladder and bowel function.

How physiotherapy treatment helps

Proper evaluation of medical history, testing, character of symptoms able to determine the root of problem. Then with a well planned therapeutic treatment, the pressure on the affected disc can be relieved which help the person to restore normal range of motion, flexibility of spine, strength and get back active life as soon as possible. The majority of bulging or herniated discs can be managed conservatively. The physiotherapy treatment procedures may include –

  • Most recent Mackenzie techniques will help you to gain your normal range of motion and mobility of joints very quickly
  • Flexibility exercises.
  • Strengthening exercises.
  • Advanced Electro therapy to relieve pain if needed.
  • Guidance to the patient to modify their lifestyle for maintaining the good condition of the spine in future

For an ultimate management of your bulging or herniated disc please contact on 8585896151 through phone or come to the clinic directly.

Osteoporosis is a condition where thinning of bones occur due to lack of calcium deposition and absorption. Common areas of osteoporosis are spine and hip. This condition makes people more prone to injury and fracture. Old age and overweight people are more susceptible to osteoporosis.

How physiotherapy treatment helps –

physiotherapy has a very crucial part in the management of osteoporosis. Some area specific guided exercise programme with proper medications will help to recover the risky condition.

Physiotherapy management may includes –

  • Guided strengthening exercises.
  • Flexibility and mobility exercises for osteoporotic area to maintain good blood supply.
  • Proper weight management programme to maintain body weight.

As a musculo-skeletal expert I’ll help you to overcome this condition and restoring your body to a more optimum state. I’ll work in conjunction with your physician to make a suitable, customized treatment plan for you ensuring a road to stronger bones. Also, a good nutritive diet guidance will be given to you by a dietician in clinic.

Lumber spondylolisthesis is a condition where one vertebra(spinal bone) slips onto the bone just below it.

The vertebra which slips too far, may press on nerves that causes severe back pain and causes numbness or weakness through out the lower limb. Generally this slippage occurs in lower back at the level of 4th or 5th vertebra.

Risk factors For lumbar spondylolisthesis are –

  • Poor posture that put much pressure on lower back
  • Obesity that causes muscle weakness
  • Weak abdominals and spinal muscles
  • Overstretching of ligaments that hold the spinal bones
  • Accidental injury over lower back that causes excessive strain.

Symptoms for this condition depends on the severity of injury. Sometimes symptoms can be mild such as general fatigue, Stiffness of the low back, achy pain or severe symptoms if there is compression on the nerves exciting the spine or spinal cord. Sometimes in severe cases, surgery is indicated.

How physiotherapy treatment helps –

Once the diagnosis is confirmed after evaluating medical history and medical tests, first of all I will guide the patient to prevent further severity of injury. Then I’ll plan for a customized treatment procedure to improve mobility and flexibility in other spinal areas, give stability to the affected area and educate the patient on the proper techniques to maintain spinal stability.

Physiotherapeutic techniques may include –

  • Advanced class 4 laser therapy or electrotherapy modalities to reduce acute inflammation in the affected area.
  • Dry needling technique to relax the spasmatic muscles that helps in decreasing pain.
  • Strengthening of the infected area musculatures.
  • Proper hands-on technique to reduce radiating symptoms
  • Mackenzie technique to guide the slipped bone in normal alignment.
  • Postural exercises to maintain good posture
  • Lifestyle guidance for the patient to prevent further strain and stress on effected areas.

Take appointment in clinic or consult on 8585896151 by phone today to discover how I can effectively treat or manage your lumber listhesis problem.

There are many different types of surgical procedures done for the lower back like discectomy, Laminectomy, spinal fusion surgeries. The goal of the surgery is to remove pressure on the compressed nerve or to remove any broken bone in case of compression fracture.

How physiotherapy treatment helps –

physiotherapy plays a vital role in post surgical rehabilitation of Lumbar spine. In this case I will follow a proper rehabilitation protocol after seeing your medical history, medical test reports and post surgical discharge certificate.

Then a customized rehabilitation plan will be made in coordination with your physician. The first phase of the rehabilitation include –

  • Relieving pain and protect your surgical site during the healing phase.
  • Passive range of motion exercises and active range of motion exercises given to the patient to normalise blood circulation and gain mobility.

The second phase when, patient allowed to do more activities, then following maybe the procedure –

  • Gentle flexibility and mobility exercises
  • Strengthening of surgical site and effected side of the patient.
  • Specific stabilisation exercises.
  • Guided walking, balancing and spinal coordination.
  • Properly educate patient about lifestyle modification to protect from further injury.
