Many different conditions can be successfully treated by physiotherapy. Please click on the diagram below for information on common conditions we treat and how physical therapy can help you.
Sprain and strain injuries are very common in ankle joint. These types of injuries often occur during walking, running or jumping on uneven surface. Sometimes wearing improper footwear or footwear with high heel can also cause this kind of Injuries.
Sprain occurs in ligament and strain occurs in muscle due to quick overstretching of the tissues causing micro tearing and subsequent injury.
Symptoms involves swelling, pain, unable to bear weight and gradually restriction of movements.
First line of treatment should start with proper icing of injured area, then immobilise the joint with applying compression bandage, elevation of foot and non weight bearing or rest.
With severe limitations of movements and persisting pain, you should consult with physiotherapist. You will be first evaluated for the pain scale, joint range of motion, pattern of injury to determine the particular source of pain and inflammation. Then I prepare a suitable treatment plan which helps you to restore your normal movement and active life as soon as possible.

Achilles tendonitis is the inflammation of Achilles tendon that attaches your calf muscle to the back of your heel.
This Tendon is very strong and helps to maintain our weight bearing posture during walking, running, jumping etc.
TAchilles tendonitis occurs when there is tightness in hamstring muscle and calf muscle and you have limitations of movement in ankle joint, putting excessive pressure on this ligament during weight bearing activities.
Symptoms involves pain in the backside of ankle and limitation of movement of foot and ankle joint. Generally, weight bearing activities increases the pain.
Physiotherapy is the most important first line of treatment in Achilles tendonitis. First, I evaluate the range of motion of ankle joint, strength of involved muscle groups, walking pattern and balance of patient to determine the exact cause and extent of pathology to prepare a suitable treatment programme.
Planter fascia is a thick band of tissues that connect the heel bone to the toes. Inflammation of this planter fascia is called planter fasciitis. This is so common in people that over 2 million of cases seen in India every year. This is the most common cause of heel pain and caused due to tight planter fascia, over use, uneven walking surface, hard shoes and flat arch of foot.
Symptoms include stabbing pain in bottom area of foot near hill specially during first step after awakening in the morning, after long standing or during get up from long time sitting to standing.
Physiotherapy is the best option for treating planter fasciitis. As an expert first, I evaluate the ankle and foot mobility, movement, posture, walking pattern and muscle tightness in foot and calf muscle region to detect the exact cause of pain and discomfort. Then I plan for a suitable treatment method to restore your normal activity as soon as possible.

Different types of surgeries can be performed in foot and ankle including fracture repair, tendon repair, ligament repair, and deformity correction.
After surgery and immobilisation period., there will be inflammation of the surgical site, limited range of motion and loss of muscle strength in the surgical site, for which physiotherapy rehabilitation is needed to get back proper normal activities very soon.
As the surgery performed in ankle, there can be loss of balance, altered walking pattern and difficulty in stair climbing or jumping activities.
The goal of rehabilitation process will focus on get back normal movement and strength and restore normal daily activities as early as possible.
As an expert professional, I will work on this by coordinating with your physician’s protocol.
The anterior cruciate ligament that controls rotation and forward movement of tibia is one of the most common ligaments to be injured. Certain twisting motion of knee in sports like football, basketball etc.causes ACL stretched out and torn.
The posterior cruciate ligament injury usually occurs with sudden, direct impact during any accident or sports.
The collateral ligaments usually injured by a blow to the outer side of the knee such as when playing sports or during any accident. The ligaments stretched out and tears occur.
Most of the time, ACL or PCL injury does not cause any Pain. The person may get a popping sound when injury occurs, followed by the leg buckling when trying to stand on it, and swelling. Cruciate ligament injury causes the knee to pop and buckle with pain and swelling.
Often grade one and grade two tear can be rehabilitated successfully by physiotherapy treatment. But grade three tear that is complete tear need surgical intervention.
When a patient comes to clinic with symptoms like ligament injury, first will be diagnosed very carefully and access the stability of the knee, movement and walking pattern, range of motion. Then I perform some special tests to evaluate the different ligament stability and grade of injury to decide the best course of action to resolve the pain and instability and return you to activities as soon as possible.
Fractures generally occur in fibula bone, metatarsal bones and calcaneal bone in foot and ankle. Also other bones are there which may damage due to trauma.
In severe cases, surgery may be indicated for realignment and stabilisation of bones. But in most cases, fractures are immobilised with plaster cast and bracing for proper healing.
After immobilisation period, Ankle joint becomes stiff, less mobile and loss of muscle strength surrounding the joint occurs.
Physiotherapy plays very important role in post fracture rehabilitation of ankle and foot to regain mobility, strength and coordination in movements.
To get an effective post fracture rehabilitation, contact me on 8585896151 or directly come to the clinic with your x-rays and prescription.
